STAN SNIGIR, INJURED Stan Snigir recently hurt
his ankle. Details are sketchy. But obviously, Snigir will not be jumping for a while, but
he hadn't been planning on going to the euro stops of the 2004 World Cup, anyway.Snigir is a US resident russian of ukranian birth and holds a US green card. Last year, Snigir entered the Speed Skydiving World Cup after having practiced over the JumpTown DZ (USA) in 2002. Jumptown is the venue for the 4th meet of the 2004 World Cup. Snigir's first official meet result came at Hibaldstow (UK) with 391.17 kph (243.11 mph). This was the first time a male US competitor competed in the Speed Skydiving World Cup since the implementation of the use of two speed measuring devices in Spain in November 2000, rather than one. The female US record is held by Renata Beckner with 352.16 kph (218.87 mph) from Ravenna (Italy) in August 2002. Before that, the records was held by Liam Harding for his performance at the "Millennium Speed Skydiving Competition in September 1999 over Gap-Tallard (France), and Lisa Ramsdel for her performance at the "Cleveland Speed Skydiving Competition" in July 2000. These records where deleted following the above mentioned change. Thus, Snigir established the new US Speed Skydiving record over the UK DZ in June 2003. In the following meet, in Spa (Belgium), he moved the US record to 404.94 kph (251.67 mph) and to 408.31 kph (253.77 mph). A week later, Snigir raised his US record to 422.42 kph (262.54 mph) over Gryttjom (Sweden), the 11th fastest jump of 2003. Stan, get well soon! PS. The kph/mph converter is 1.609. |
